To reach Jean Émond
Relevant contributions for a board of directorsEthics and governanceConvinced of the advantages of ethical management and driven by business values that focus on respect for people, Jean Émond successfully led the development, implementation and promotion of a code of conduct at a major Canadian enterprise. As the guardian of the code of conduct, he was management’s standard bearer for ethics, ensuring complaints were handled diligently, from interpretation and follow-up to decisions. He also directed a subsidiary whose mandate dealt mainly with the protection of property and people ($2.5 billion in assets and 25,000 employees).
AcquisitionAs a core member of numerous business audits, for companies with sales ranging from $12 million to $850 million, Jean successfully identified and evaluated the financial risks related to people management, including non-capitalized pension funds, past experience in insurance, health and security, and transaction bonuses among others. He was often called on to evaluate pre-transaction risks concerning the future of the owners and senior executives and to arrange their retention or departure. He has also frequently assessed positive and negative synergies related to organizational culture, values, staff engagement and openness to change, as well as the implementation of best practices. Jean has regularly negotiated contracts with senior executives, consolidated corporate culture using a proven integration and communications strategy, harmonized compensation, benefit and training practices, and managed change through the implementation pursuit of excellence programs. In one project, he combined over 10 pension plans into a single scheme, and then carried out the same exercise with group insurance plans.
Succession planThe future of any business is highly dependent on its capacity to identify internal and external individuals capable of taking over strategic positions. With proven experience in this process, Jean has developed, implemented and maintained succession plans at the very highest level. He is also thoroughly familiar with related talent development and management strategies.
Ethical and competitive compensationTo protect shareholder interests in the form of strong growth and asset security, Jean Émond has used effective, transparent governance to develop and implement all the components of a sophisticated compensation plan for senior executives, adapting and integrating base salary management, short-term profit sharing, performance units, option plans, stock unit plans, share purchase plans and “SERP” supplemental pension plans.
